Hello all my big-city dreamers. It has been a while since my last post. I really miss posting new content on this blog, researching new blogs, and learning more about my field. Even though all my posts are professional with a hint of my personal touch, this will be more personal than most in order to explain my long hiatus.
A lot has happened this past month: I started at my very first internship as a political intern for a congressional campaign (political PR aspirations!), let go of my beloved part-time job of 3 1/2 years so I can work at my internship, joined a student-run PR firm on campus, started to wrap up my last semester in my sorority, and found a weekend job to help with bills. Besides all these activities, school started taking a huge toll on me and since I forgot what it was like to work on the weekends, I had to adjust my time to completing my homework during the week since all I do over the weekend is work. However, through this stressful month, I went through several personal matters that really affected my attitude, mood, and overall, affected me mentally.
I soon realized I could not let personal matters, stress, and the fear of failing paralyze me. I felt that in the hustle-n-bustle of my crazy life, I was losing track of the important things in life: family, religious beliefs, friends, quality me-time, and focusing on my passions: ex, this blog! I started restructuring my life, yet my passions were still taking a back burner. I was not making time for my blogging, was not really keeping up on my social media, and was losing focusing of my brand. In the field of PR, you need to be alert, focused, tuned in, and cannot afford to take a mental vacation when things get tough. That's what I learned this past month: when things get tough, you can't check out. You need to breathe, step up, remember your passions are worth fighting for, and push through. This was a valuable lesson since I am a PR newbie and even though this past month was a rough time for me, I learned so much about commitment, time management, being attentive, staying focused, and more about PR in general.
So whenever the going gets tough, you get tough as well. I am excited to be back and ready to continue tackling the challenges & fears of PR newbies. Have you ever experienced a time like this: when everything hits you at once so you feel like you're drowning and all you want is someone to throw you some type of saver? How did you overcome those tough times? And how did you still manage to focus on the important things: school, work, internship, blogging, family, friends, you, etc.? Let me know in comments and send me a tweet! Until next time...
